Chrisette Michele has stood out as one of the leading vocalists/songwriters of her generation. The silky soul singer is currently preparing for one of the busiest summers of her career.
She will be headlining several music festivals, going on tour with Mary J. Blige and releasing her new album in the upcoming months.
Michele recently spoke with rolling out about her summer plans and new music.
You will be headlining the Atlanta Jazz Fest this upcoming weekend. How were you connected to this festival?
I have a great agent and he and I share a love for Jazz. I went to school for vocal Jazz performance. He often seeks Jazz festivals around the world for me to perform at. So I’m very excited to be a part of the Atlanta Jazz Fest.
You have Jazz influenced music that is still considered contemporary. Have you always been inspired by Jazz?
Some people naturally have Jazz music in their soul. I think some parts of me is just naturally geared towards Jazz. It’s a part of who I am. I have always been a big fan of Jazz music.
Your new album will be coming out soon. What can fans expect?
I’m super excited about it. It’s a more positive album than my last. I’m positive about love and hope. It’s all about mending a broken heart. I named the album Better. Sometimes you get a cut and it takes time for it to heal. That’s how love can be and this album is all about healing.
What else can we expect from you this summer?
I’ll be going on tour with Mary J. Blige in a couple of weeks. Afterwards, I will be going out on the “Better” tour.
