Currently, Dr. Stacey Oddman is the chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She graduated from Boston University School of Medicine.

What inspires you to go to work every day?


I truly followed my heart and pursued my passion, which is medicine. Besides that fact, I enjoy the patients that I care for and the people that I work with.

How did you determine your career path?


I never thought becoming a doctor was even possible until my stepfather told me many years ago, “Aim high … be a lawyer or a doctor.” The very next day I asked my biology teacher, Miss House, if she thought I could do it and she said “Of course you can, Stacey” and that was it! I decided to be a doctor while in my 10th grade biology class.

Describe your goal-setting methods and how you evaluate your success?

Each year I set a goal to accomplish something new that will either enhance my life or someone else’s in some way. When I see the fruit of my labor or my goals attained, that validates my success.

Outside of your industry, name two of role models for success?
Maya Angelou and Hillary Clinton

Can you name three books that changed how you saw life?
Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now by Maya Angelou, Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, and The Alchemist by Paul Coelho

Describe why lifelong learning is important to you?
The galaxies and the earth are constantly evolving why shouldn’t I do the same?

Technology plays what role in your daily life?
The question should be in what aspect of my daily life does it not play a role?

What software and tools of technology have made the biggest difference in your life?
Well, I use medical apps such as Epocrates and Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy frequently for work. However, Google is a must and I can’t do without iTunes.

Describe your favorite vacation spot.
Anywhere that is rich with culture, beautiful beaches, and mouth-watering cuisine.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would ensure that everyone has at least the basic necessities in life, such as food and shelter.
