Judge denies use of evidence in George Zimmerman’s trial
The judge in the murder trial of George Zimmerman has denied the use of evidence his attorney’s planned on using to trash the deceased teen’s character. According to WESH Orlando, Circuit Judge, Debra Nelson also denied a motion from the defense to delay the trial six weeks. Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara requested the delay in light of new voice analysis the state plans to introduce as evidence during the trial.
On Tuesday, Judge Nelson ruled that George Zimmerman’s defense may not bring up Trayvon Martin’s alleged past marijuana use, school suspensions or fights at trial without another ruling granting them permission. The defense previously released text messages the teen sent to an unnamed friend detailing a school fight and photographs of Martin wearing gold teeth. Another photo showed the teen reportedly smoking marijuana.
The prosecution team has since accused the defense of trying to taint the jury pool who may have seen the evidence.
