Floyd Mayweather is either a die-hard Miami Heat fan, or he is a bit overly competitive when it comes to gambling. According to reports, Mayweather placed a $5.9 million bet on the Miami Heat against the Indiana Pacers during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Because of the large amount, Mayweather had to spread the bets out with nine sports books. Led by LeBron James, the Heat demolished the Pacers and advanced to the NBA Finals where they will face the San Antonio Spurs.
But while Mayweather’s ego was inflated by choosing the right team, the victory didn’t amount to much because the Heat were favorites by 1 point. As a result, the victory would have earned Mayweather $6.5 million profit.
Although Mayweather has yet to confirm speculations on the bet, it’s very possible for him to gamble so much money at one time.
When it comes to Mayweather’s bank account, cash isn’t an object. He was the highest grossing athlete in 2012 and recently signed a six-fight $200 million deal with Showtime.
