Mario, what inspired you to create Visionary Movements?
I’ve known John Jack since middle school, but I hadn’t seen him in years! It just so happens that we were auditioning for the same movie and as we waited to be called into the auditions, we started talking about how it would be cool to do something for the youth in the community. After a few weeks of brainstorming, we decided to create a film company that was similar to a youth basketball or football camp. The company caught on a lot faster than we expected, which allowed us to deliver several forms of media outlets geared toward positivity and motivation for the general public, as well as the youth.
Jon, what will be the next film project?
Our latest film is a web-stream called “G.R. U. S. T. L. E Diaries” about two actors in the midst of their career. Although the show is about actors, anyone can relate regardless of what career or dream they’re pursuing. It’s a struggle, and you have to hustle to reach your goals, so you are experiencing the “Grustle” of success everyday. We also have a program this summer titled “Shut up and Drive” designed to showcase the interactions between inner city kids on the school bus through a narrative scripted drama cast solely of the inner city students.
Mario, what do you hope these kids will gain from starring in the Shut Up and Drive film?
The school bus plays an essential role in the lifestyle of an inner city school aged child and we want them to see that there are different outlets. Some people write and some people act! I want this to be a different form of relief for them while also inspiring each other. A lot of the kids share similar life stories but they are afraid to talk about it most times because they are ashamed or embarrassed. I hope that participating in the film will inspire them to delve deep into their emotions and realize that they are not alone because their peers are dealing with similar situations, too.
