Do you most often actively seek inspiration or does it find you? Or is there a combination of the two?

KOOL KID BEEZI: It’s a combination of the two.
KILLA CAM: Inspiration finds me.


What led you to art in general and to your art form(s) in particular?

KOOL KID BEEZI: A native of Clarksdale, Miss., I was around blues and gospel and played various instruments.
KILLA CAM: I wanted a place where my voice could be heard. Music controls all aspects of emotions.


Have you and your artistry ever been involved in traditional business? If so, how?

KOOL KID BEEZI: Yes, independently producing, recording, promoting and marketing and selling myself.
KILLA CAM: Pretty much the same thing as KOOL KID, but also adding writing.

How do you stay at the leading edge of your craft?

KOOL KID BEEZI: Being true to myself as an artist and remaining consistent. Never stop recording, studying the game and never stop writing.
KILLA CAM: As an artist, you’re never supposed to be content. You should always allow your creative to be creative, swaii.

Who do you consider to be your peers in your field? Who do you see or use as examples for you to emulate?

KOOL KID BEEZI: Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer, Leslie Brathwaite, Bu Vision mixing engineer Shiloh Sauls, DJ Big X and The Coalition DJ’s Atlanta, music producer PO from Dark City Entertainment (and former rapper of Section 8 Mob) and music producer Jazze Pha.

Name two of your top role models: one in the art world and one from outside of it.

KOOL KID BEEZI: In the real world, my father and in the art world my brother Killa Cam.
KILLA CAM: In the real world, my mother and in the art world I look up to my brother Kool Kid Beezi.

What software, app or other technological innovation has made the biggest difference in your life r career?

KOOL KID BEEZI: FL Studio is my baby and always will be. Sure there are other programs to produce on, but I’m surgical with FL Studio.
KILLA CAM: Having GPS on the phone is genius. Music wise Protools.

What does it take to be iconic? In your estimation, who has achieved that status?

KOOL KID BEEZI: A global movement and a brand that is timeless. Michael Jackson is an icon.
KILLA CAM: To gain the attention of the masses of the people. Jay Z, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, James Brown and Prince just to name a few.
