Most of us suspected it, but Kelly Rowland shocked the world earlier this month when she released the the deeply personal track, “Dirty Laundry,” in which she sang about being upset that Beyoncé’s career skyrocketed while hers stalled after Destiny’s Child broke up. And though many thought that Rowland was admitting that she was jealous of Beyoncé, she now claims that that wasn’t the case.
In the infamous song, which was penned by The-Dream, Rowland sings “While my sister was on stage, killing it like a moth*rf**ker / I was enraged, feeling it like a moth*rf**ker.” But, in an interview with “Good Morning America,” Rowland claims that people are overlooking the other message of the telling verse, in which she claimed she was happy Beyoncé “was killin’ it.”
“I’m not saying I’m jealous of her by any means!” Rowland clarified. “It’s so sad that people always go straight to that place [of jealousy]. It’s ridiculous. It’s basically about me going through some struggles in my life while she was doing her thing.”
Well, we can’t say that we wouldn’t have understood if Rowland was jealous of Bey. Honestly, anyone would’ve been. But she’s not the only singer to watch a former group mate rise into the upper echelon while they themselves struggled for success.
