In the early ’90s, OG Ron C and Michael “5000” Watts co-founded one of the most influential records labels in Texas, The SwishaHouse. The duo had great independent success with projects released through the label by Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Grammy Award-winning artist Chamillionaire.
Recently, OG Ron C and Michael “5000” Watts paired up once again to form the only official chopped and screwed record label, Chopped Not Slopped Entertainment. The label currently houses nine deejays, called the Chop Stars, which includes OG Ron C, Michael “5000” Watts, DJ Candlestick, DJ Mr. Rogers, DJ Holly Grove, DJ Rucker, DJ Lil Steve, DJ Chose and DJ Mankind.
“We will be putting the authenticity stamp on all chopped and screwed music so if you don’t see that Chopped Not Slopped logo, it’s not official,” says OG Ron C.
With the recent mainstream exposure chopped and screwed music has been receiving from artists such as Drake, A$AP Rocky, The Weekend, Casey Veggies, Killa Kyleon, a slew of other artists have sought to have the official Chopped Not Slopped stamp on their projects. It’s no surprise that the label received 1 million downloads in less than 72 hours for their version of Drake’s “Take Care” from his opus of the same name, which they titled “Chop Care.” We are excited to see what other great remixes will be coming from this talented camp.
