19 firefighters killed
Prescott Fire Chief, Dan Fraijo said the 19 firefighters, whose names have not been released, were part of the city’s fire department and praised them for their work.
“We’re devastated, “said Fraijo. We just lost 19 of the finest people you’ll ever meet.” The elite firemen that were part of the so-called “Hotshots crew” were confirmed dead Sunday after battling an Arizona wildfire.
The men were battling the Yarnel Hill fire which broke out Friday northwest of Phoenix and destroyed at least 250 homes. The fire is believed to have been started by lightning.
A Facebook page has been set up to pay tribute to the fallen firemen. -danielle canada
