Young Money superstar, Drake was one of the big winners at last night’s BET Awards but the rapper was noticeably absent from the night’s proceedings. The news of Drake’s no-show spread quickly and made for an awkward set of circumstances for the event–considering Drake was nominated for 12 awards, the most of any musical artist.

Drake’s absence fueled speculation that he’d pulled out of the BET Awards at the last minute in response to R&B star Chris Brown being named as a performer on the show. But Drake has addressed his absence and the rumors.

Drizzy tweeted a message to his fans and thanked BET for his being honored.

“Thank you to BET and to the fans for voting! I’m home finishing the album and spending time w/ family before we begin our journey Sept 17.,” Drake tweeted late last night (June 30th.)

“Congrats to Kendrick as well! NWTS” he added, referencing fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar who took home the most awards.

Drake finished with wins in three award categories: “Viewer’s Choice,” “Video of the Year,” and “Best Collaboration.”
