Since Coming to America, Murphy’s career has been a fruitful rollercoaster of hits and misses. But almost all of his movies made money. Coming to America was the training ground, per say, for his foray into playing multiple characters in the box office blockbusters The Nutty Professor and The Klumps. He also scored big with Boomerang and children-themed films, Dr. Doolittle, Dr. Doolittle 2 and Daddy Day Care, all surpassing the $100 million mark at the box office. Murphy also earned a Golden Globe and and an Academy Award nomination playing James “Early” Thunder in Dreamgirls. Since Coming to America, he has gotten married — and divorced — twice, first from his wife and Traci Edmonds and he has two beautiful daughters who have become models.
