John Spooner, 76, of Milwaukee, has been found guilty of fatally shooting 13-year-old Darius Simmons in May 2012. During opening statements on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, the prosecution warned the jury, “The best piece of evidence you’re going to see is the murder. You’re going to actually see what the murder looks like in this case,” prosecutor Mark Williams said.
Spooner installed surveillance cameras at his home in an attempt to catch the perpetrator who’d broken into his home several times and stealing his guns.
Patricia Larry, Simmons’ mother, witnessed the gruesome murder of her unarmed young son. She testified in court, “He told him he was going to teach him not to steal, and he shot him.”
He was found guilty today, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, of first-degree intentional homicide. The same surveillance camera caught him in the act when he gunned down the teen. Warning: It’s quite graphic.
