Occupation: Model
What titles do you hold?
I currently hold the title of Miss Swimsuit International, Miss Swimsuit USA, the new face of iFlavor, and Miss Darque Tan. I will be competing in the Miss Texas USA preliminary contest on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. If I win, I will get to represent the state of Texas as Miss Bay Area in the Miss USA pageant for 2014.
How did you begin your modeling career?
I wanted to do modeling since I was about 15 years old but I ran cross-country and track from seventh grade up until my third year of college. When I stopped competing competitively, my mom encouraged me to pursue my dream of modeling. I was afraid because it’s hard to explain a career in modeling and pageants to people without them thinking that you are being [disingenuous]. I know this firsthand because I used to be one of those people. My sister competed in pageants as a teenager and I made fun of her for it because I didn’t understand it. You really have to experience this industry to understand that it’s truly about being confident, focusing on goals and finding your inner self.
How do you keep your swimsuit figure?
I do cardio for 30 minutes every day and I meet with my trainer, Chuck Stephens, twice a week where we alternate between upper body, back, legs and the other muscle groups. Chuck is really good about telling me what I need to eat, how to manage my water weight and how much water to take in for my body size. So many people try to go off of their own understanding and intuition, and I think that’s why most people struggle when it comes to losing weight.
What charities will you be working with if you win Miss Texas?
After I graduate in December, I plan to start teaching elementary school, so any chance that I get to work with children to fight childhood obesity and teach self-esteem is always near to my heart. I am also in the process of organizing a team under Miss Swimsuit USA to walk for the Susan G. Komen race for the cure.
