Detroit turns 312 years old; its greatest cultural jewels

det, statueSpirit of Detroit Statue — This bronze statue located in front of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in downtown Motown. Created by Marshall Fredericks and completed in 1958, it is a statue of a male seated Indian-style holds a golden sphere in one hand and a family group in the other hand representing God and human relationships respectively. During the playoffs of sporting events, the male figure will often be dressed in a jersey of the hometown team.
