Timbaland apologizes to Chris Brown for Aaliyah comments: ‘I’m very overprotective’

2012 BET Awards - Radio Room - Day 1

Timbaland is apologizing for his disparaging comments regarding Chris Brown‘s Aaliyah-assisted song. After his recent interview with Revolt TV, where he criticized Brown and rapper Drake’s releasing work with the late singer’s vocals, the hitmaking producer has tried to clarify his stance. In his initial statement, Timbo claimed that artists who release songs that sample Aaliyah’s work but don’t feature Timbaland’s music will “never work.” Timbaland and Aaliyah collaborated frequently during her career, and he tweeted that he is simply overprotective of his fallen friend’s musical legacy.

“I want 2 publicly apologize 2 my lil homie @chrisbrown 4 my statements on revolt regarding the Aaliyah collaborations,” said Timbaland. “i actually like the song wit him n Aaliyah, its just when you are talking about babygirl its a very sensitive subject with me. so the people who not only worked with her but grew a bond so tight we are like family so im very over protective over her.”

“I have mad luv 4 my dude @chrisbrown. A mother lost a daughter. a brother lost a sister. that is still grieving over her passing. it just a very sensitive subject. I just want the family to be respected,” Timbaland added.

Brown released “Didn’t Think They Know” earlier in the summer, which features vocals from Aaliyah. Drake has spoken frequently about his love for the late singer and her music, and last year released a “new” Aaliyah song called “Enough Said,” and revealed plans to executive produce a posthumous Aaliyah album.
