DJ Khaled is assuring fans and media that his feelings regarding his YMCMB labelmate Nicki Minaj are 100 percent real. Khaled and Minaj have been all over gossip sites for the past several days, following the DJ’s appearance on MTV, where he presented a diamond ring and said that he wants Nicki to marry him. Despite skepticism that his awkward MTV “proposal” was just a goofy publicity stunt and despite reports that Minaj allegedly filed a restraining order in New York against him this week, Khaled says he is not going to slow down in his chase of the buxom beauty.
“I’m at a point in my career, you got to understand, I ain’t a young boy anymore,” Khaled said in an interview with Power 106. “I just had to be honest. I’ve always liked her, she’s my friend, of course, and I like her. It’s more than just a crush. I want to be honest — she’s out there hustling and I respect that. I can take care of her and not just that, she’s beautiful. … Of course I want to marry her. I’m sure there’s other people who want to marry her. I just felt like I want to be honest with her. … I love the girl, I like her. … If she says no, it’s all good. She’s my friend. She might not be ready for marriage. I want kids, I want a lot of things, you gotta be ready for this, but, I’m gonna keep it real, I’m going to tell her how I feel. … She might say yes tonight or tomorrow, she might say yeah next year. I’m never gonna give up. I don’t ever give up on nothing I do.”
Maybach Music Group founder Rick Ross also shared his perspective on the situation — and revealed that he believes Khaled is sincere.
“I see that it’s not planned, but I’m reading the small description underneath and it says he has a ring from Rafaello & Co, if I’m reading that correctly, that’s valued at about a half a million dollars,” Ross said. “If you spend a half a million dollars, you’re dead ass serious. … That’s been my brother. I know he’s been infatuated with Nicki. I guess we all just gotta sit back and wait.”
