Nas used his celebrity influence to help a single father and his eight children who have been misplaced by a fire. The rapper discovered Stanley Young’s story while reading an article online.
In July, Young’s family home was destroyed by a fire and was forced to move his eight children in a hotel. However, Young, who is a former construction worker and unemployed will have to leave the hotel by Aug. 13. Young’s wife and the mother of his children died last year.
To help with the situation, Nas created a fund raising campaign on CrowdTilt.com. Nas started the campaign with $5,000 of his own money and later added $5,000 more. The target amount is $50,000. At press time, $32,305 had been raised.
Nas provided insight on why he decided to start the campaign: “I am also a single father, and we don’t get enough credit in this country. I’m committed to helping Stanley and his eight kids. Moreover, I believe and hope that we should all, as a community, come together to help our fellow American men and women when they need us in desperate situations like this.”
