Ben Roethlisberger — The two-time Super Bowl champion was just a whisker from spending decades in prison after Georgia prosecutors accrued convincing evidence that the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback raped a 20-year-old college student in the women’s restroom in rural Georgia while one of his companions stood guard outside the door.
Mysteriously, perhaps miraculously, the prosecutor’s office decided not to press charges because Roethlisberger might still be in prison today. NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell, however, suspended him for six games because Roethlisberger was also accused of rape in a Vegas casino just a year earlier.
