Battle of the Year is an international dance competition that the American team is hoping to bring home after a decade and a half of being denied the top spot. Everybody loves a good underdog-rises-to-the-top yarn, especially when it’s paired with some of the best dancing to be captured on celluloid. The storyline might not be original, but the young performers give it a shot of pure adrenaline, and the underutilized Laz Alonso delivers a solid performance.
We’re thinking Chris Brown is hoping that his dazzling soft-shoe routine will keep people from tap-dancing his business all over the tabloids. Maybe. Maybe not. –p.d. lee
