More than 300 chili and barbecue teams competed for the right to be called king of grill and head chili master. And, there were enough ingredients to satisfy the most finicky eaters — from the usual ingredients, ground beef, sausage and deer meat to cumin, chili powder, and peppers found in red meat chili at the 34th annual Great Miller Lite Chili & BBQ Cook-Off. The uncommon chili varieties included Philly Cheese Steak Chili, chocolate chili and others with unidentifiable, but palatable ingredients.
Although most were very tasty, the one that dishes that were worthy of a head nod were the white chili and Brunswick stew, with some exceptions for being too watery.
Held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Ga., an Atlanta suburb, the event featured a host of activities for kids including lots of suds and foam for the kids to frolic in as well as inflatable jump-and-play bouncers and live music and frosty beverages for adults.
One hundred percent of the proceeds for this event went to Camp Twin Lakes. Also, The Albert, Bone Lick BBQ and D.B.A. Barbecue is donating a portion of proceeds from chili served at their restaurants throughout the entire month of October to Camp Twin Lakes. –amc
