Congressman John Lewis arrested

John Lewis arrested

Congressman John Lewis was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET for at least the 45th time.  He has quite a long rap sheet and with good cause. He was arrested over 40 times in Civil Rights Movement,  five times as a member of Congress, twice at the South African embassy protesting apartheid, twice at the Embassy of the Sudan protesting genocide in Darfur and today he was arrested to demand dignity and respect for immigrants.

Rep. John Lewis joined other members of Congress, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi at a march to the Capitol for immigration reform. It is possible he will be among those arrested later today at the U.S. Capitol in the struggle for immigrant dignity and respect. Photos of Rep. Lewis with Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-NY), on stage at the rally, and in the crowd at the march in Washington, D.C.
