On Thursday, October 17  BRAG (Black Retail Group) held it’s 43rd Annual Scholarship and Award Gala. The non-profit organization started in 1970 is aimed at encouraging and preparing young adults of color to enter careers within the fashion retail industry. The event held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square acknowledged the generous efforts of alumni, the long-standing support of donors and recognized those who have graduated from the program with great success.

Among the guests honored were Alain LanFontant, Vice President of Development at Sean John; Iman, model and Founder of Iman cosmetics and Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman, President and CEO of Macy’s Inc. The Master of Ceremonies was style expert, television host and author Lloyd Boston. Other celebrity guests included Nick Cannon and Beverly Johnson.

Fundraising is key to the continuation of the program. BRAG allows students of color to participate in internship programs that provide an intensive eleven-week experience that aids in developing their personal and professional growth, providing exposure to real-life industry experience and building a network with their peers and professionals in the fields of retail business, arts and education. Alumni from BRAG go on to hold esteemed positions at brands like Macys, Old Navy and Nike .
