Singer Patti LaBelle testified Thursday against a man, Richard King, who approached her limo at a Houston airport, cursing and calling LaBelle names before a fight broke out between King and her bodyguard.
The incident, which took place in 2011 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, landed King in a hospital with a head wound after LaBelle’s bodyguard, Efrem Holmes, stepped in to keep the man away from LaBelle. Holmes is being charged with misdemeanor assault in the clash that was caught on the airport’s security video. Police records show King’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving. King testified Thursday that he could not remember details of the incident.
The Grammy award winning singer recalled to the judge and court how terrified she was as Richard King staggered toward her limousine at the Houston airport.
After the incident, King filed a civil lawsuit against the singer and Holmes with LaBelle filing a countersuit.
