Another day, another former celebrity faces some pretty heavy criminal charges. On Monday, Nov. 4, former San Francisco 49er Kwame Harris was found guilty of several misdemeanors following a violent dispute with an ex-boyfriend last year.

The former linebacker, 31, was convicted of pinning Dimitri Geier, his boyfriend at the time, against a window and hitting him several times in the face and head after his now ex tried to pour soy sauce on his rice at a Chinese restaurant.

The 2003 NFL first round pick hailing from Stanford was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, battery and assault for the August 2012 assault at Suh Hong restaurant in Menlo Park, Calif. Harris was acquitted of felony domestic violence and assault. He’s scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Harris responded to his conviction saying, “I didn’t see those two things as being compatible, but now when I look back in hindsight, if I could have done it differently, I’d like to think that I would find the strength, or find the fortitude or the grace to make the hard decision… You want to escape this despair, this turmoil. Maybe your mind goes to dark places sometimes, but I would just say I’m happy today. I’m glad I didn’t actually … that those were just ideas, that I didn’t act on any of those things and it does, you know, it does get better.”

Oddly enough, Harris’ arrest also outed him as gay, forcing him to speak out about the hardships of being in a homosexual athlete in professional sports. – ruthie hawkins/@ruubabie
