International superstar Rihanna is teaming up with UNICEF and its “There for the Philippines” campaign to help in the relief efforts for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
“Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave,” Rihanna said in a statement. “Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF’s work over the years, I am honored to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I.”
Rihanna quietly donated $100,000 to the relief efforts before she became involved with the campaign.
In addition to Rihanna, other celebrities involved in the campaign include actress/singer Vanessa Hudgens, WNBA star Skylar Diggins, and star baseball player Robinson Cano.
The “There for the Philippines” campaign utilizes both fundraising and awareness via social media to help victims of the deadly typhoon that struck the Philippines in early November. UNICEF encourages anyone who wants to get involved to donate, update your Facebook profile pic, or even just tweet in support of the campaign.
