The first family celebrates the holiday at and away from the White House. Daughters, Malia and Sasha, decorate the Christmas tree in the Yellow Oval room while the biggest tree featured in the Blue room is decorated in tribute to our servicemen and women. In addition, the First Lady and the girls volunteer with Toys for Tots, annually.
This year, Mrs. Obama hosted a toy drive for children with parents in the military.
President Barack Obama and his family left the White House for a 17-day vacation in Hawaii for the holidays. While they have not disclosed the exact location yet, the Obamas have spent a number of Christmas breaks at a rented home in Oahu, usually at the secure and private Kailuana Place in the town of Kailua. While their holiday break was cut short last year due to the need for an emergency budget negotiation, this year the two-year budget agreement has already been passed ensuring a peaceful getaway for the Obamas.
