Most polarizing album of the year? Absolutely. But it’s also one of the best. Though it’s subject matter and heavy reliance on industrial sounds turned off a lot of “classic Kanye” fans, the mercurial rapper crafted a project that showed us more than we probably wanted to know about his psyche. It also showed that he’s still one of the most musically fearless acts in the mainstream.
