5 reasons FSU Seminoles topped Auburn Tigers for BCS title

ACC Championship

On Monday night, the Florida State Seminoles overcame the largest BCS deficit to beat the Auburn Tigers and win the national title. Down by 18 points at the half, what looked to be a dazed and confused Jameis Winston and crew were able to gather themselves in the second half, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to get the victory and end their season with a perfect 14-0 record. Here are five reasons the Seminoles are the 2013/2014 BCS national champions.

Composure under pressure

In the first three quarters of tMonday’s title game, Auburn appeared to have come up with the perfect formula to stopping the Seminoles offense,  sacking Winston four times and causing a fumble by the Heisman winner in the first half. Down by 18 at the start of the third quarter, the Seminoles came were able to keep the Tigers scoreless in the third period and scoring 24 points of their own in the second half to get the victory.

Believing

Florida State coach, Jimbo Fisher stated that during the half, he told his team that they were there for a reason and that being there is what they wanted and that they would have to do whatever it takes to ensure that the outcome was the outcome that they wanted to leave with and that simply, they had to believe!

A Heisman leader

It is true when they say big time players step up in pressure situations and Winston was able to do just that. Although he struggled for the majority of the game, in the second half Winston was able to put his early trouble behind him turning things around including a 6-for-7 7 yard game winning drive!

Playing with pride

Coach Fisher said on Monday that his team is composed of players with a lot of heart and guts and they played with it all when it mattered the most. By overcoming the 18-point deficit, FSU overcame the largest deficit in BCS championship history.

Defense

Although all eyes were on Winston, FSU’s defense stepped up big shutting out Auburn in the third quarter and getting a key turnover at the start of the fourth quarter that lead to an FSU touchdown bringing them within one with the score of 21-20 at that point in the game.
