Black father raising interracial children gets racist Twitter reactions

A Los Angeles father who proudly posted photos of himself proudly taking care of his two children, who happen to be interracial, nearly gets buried under an avalanche of vicious, racist reactions on social media.

But the father of a 3-year-old and a 3-month old fired back with a series of shots at his ignorant critics who dared criticize him for doting on his young daughters.

The imbecilic episode began when Doyin Richards, an East Coast native who moved to Southern California, proudly shared a photo of himself cradling his baby girl in an Ergo while brushing his other daughter’s hair, the post went viral.  But some commenters took issue with the color of his skin, making cruel assumptions about his lifestyle.

“I would bet anything that you’re a deadbeat,” one responder wrote on his blog Daddy Doin’ Work,

Another response said: “Cute picture. Now why don’t you hand the children back to their mom so you can go back to selling drugs or your bootleg rap CDs?”

A host of respondents mocked Richards’ race and profanely questioned whether the children and wife belonged to him.

“He probably rented those kids. They don’t even look like him,” one person said about his daughters. The mother of the two children, Mariko, is half-white and half-Japanese.

Still another person accused him of being a sell out who is being fake father, writing: ‘Look at this Uncle Tom. No chance he would be doing this if his kids were black.’

‘I’m sorry, but I can’t support a brotha who didn’t marry a black woman,’ wrote one such critic.

After digesting such unbridled hate for doing the right thing — doing what black men are accused of not doing — Richards finally snapped and responded to his haters and racist critics with his own fire.

Shockingly, Richards inventoried the critics and found that many of the most racist comments were actually black men like himself, who had negative things to say about his mixed-race wife and daughters.doyin richards4

To these people, Mr Richards fired back referring to Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

“I have a dream that people will view a picture like this and not think it’s such a big deal. Grow up and stop being so f—— ignorant,” Richards spat back at the critics with venom dripping off his words. You’re a d— embarrassment to Dr. King and his legacy. If the first thing you want to do is to criticize the skin color of my kids for not being as dark as mine, you have some serious issues.”

I’m not so shocked, in what was supposed to be “post-racial society,” that the racist, dastardly comments came from other races. But when a lot of the hate comes from black people about an African American man who is actually taking care of, and living with, his own children, then it’s an indication that we are much worse off than even anticipated.

Incredible.
