Hip-hop fans everywhere are understandably excited about beloved duo OutKast‘s decision to reunite for several performances throughout 2014, but fellow hip-hop star Queen Latifah may have let her enthusiasm get away from her this week. The buzz began after Latifah was asked about OutKast during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” this week.
“They’re chilling,” Queen Latifah reportedly said during the interview. “They’re doing movies. They’re about to work on a new album.”
Well, that quote was picked up by several major media outlets and of course fans were overjoyed at the news that the group was in the studio together for the first time in eight years. But, alas, it turned out to be much ado about nothing. Latifah addressed the buzz on Twitter, apologizing for confusing fans and stating that she never intended to indicate that OutKast was prepping any new music.
“PS: the rumor mill says I predicted an @Outkast album…except I didn’t,” she tweeted. “Sorry to get twitter a flutter. XO.”
It was announced last week that OutKast members Big Boi and André 3000 would be hitting the road together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1994 debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. Several dates have already been confirmed, including the Coachella Music Festival and the Governor’s Ball in New York City.
