Mobb Deep and The LOX are two of East Coast hip-hop’s most beloved crews. And according to a recent interview with Shade 45’s “Sway In the Morning,” Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has revealed that the two parties will be collaborating in the very near future.
While speaking about the Mobb’s upcoming project, Prodigy revealed plans to team up with the trio from Yonkers for a track on their upcoming album,as well.
“Mobb Deep album about to drop April 1,” Prodigy explains. “New Mobb Deep album; self-titled: Mobb Deep.”
“The Lox is working on [their] album right now. I don’t know when it’s coming out, but we just did a Mobb Deep-Lox song for they album,” Prodigy added. “It’s the first time we ever did a song together.”
The LOX have been hard at work on the album, but details remain scarce. The trio released it’s EP, The Trinity in December 2013. The group, which consists of Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch, hasn’t released an official studio album since 2000s We Are the Streets. Styles P has also recently announced his solo project, Phantom & The Ghost.
The projects have received a decent amount of buzz amongst fans of classic East Coast hip-hop who remember the groups’ respective heydays in the 1990s and early 2000s. But it remains to be seen if resurgent veteran acts can restore some of the commercial shine to New York-based rap music, which has fallen in mainstream visibility over the last decade.
