Legendary soul singer Anita Baker is on the run from the law … well, not exactly.
Wednesday, a bench warrant was signed and issued for the arrest of the “Caught Up In The Rapture” singer for her failure to appear at a creditor’s examination hearing after being subpoenaed to do so last September.
Baker is alleged to have failed to pay over $15,000 in monies owed to a painting and decorating service that did some work on her suburban Detroit home in 2009. Dan Gerow, the attorney representing Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating, says a judgment against Baker for $15, 351.41 was awarded to Smith in April of 2011 and Baker has yet to pay one single cent. “I just want to collect the money,” Gerow said.
Baker has yet to comment on the arrest warrant, but we really just hope that this is one of those instances where the star is too busy to respond and has entrusted these matters to her attorney to handle. Hopefully this mess gets ironed out soon.
