Life is about to get really interesting for Anthony Mackie. Why wouldn’t it, considering the fact that Mackie is now a full-fledged superhero, thanks to his impressive turn as Falcon in the upcoming, highly anticipated blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Before Mackie was completely swallowed up by the sure-to-come wave of Marvel pomp and circumstance, the talented actor sat down with rolling out movie reporter Brandi Cohen to discuss the flick.
First off, congratulations on the new role. What was it like when you received that phone call that you were officially going to be a part of the Marvel universe?
It was great. I was driving, and when I got the call, I pulled my truck over, and I was jumping up and down screaming. I have wanted to be a super hero since I started acting.
You have always been an actor who has worked consistently. How do you see your career playing out over the next 10 years? Would you only want to do one or two big movies a year, or would you like to continue with this current pace?
Either one is fine with me. I love the idea of doing small roles in major movies. I love the idea of continuing to work and doing diverse characters, as well as doing theater. So I have no idea where I will be in 10 years. I don’t want it to change much from where I am now, because I am really enjoying it.
What do you think about more African Americans playing superheroes?
I think that’s a necessity. I think that’s great. I think that we should have a brotha Justice League. It would be fun. I mean, I always laugh and joke and ask what would happen if Superman was a brotha. He would be Shaft with a cape, you know? I think that would be really cool to see.
**Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in theaters nationwide on April 4.
