The very thought that the Rev. Al Sharpton would be a willing snitch for the government agency — J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI — that worked tirelessly to destroy Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, the Black Panthers, Marcus Garvey and scores of other freedom fighters was too revolting for many to bear.
Of course, the dastardly cross-dressing racist Hoover was long dead by the time Sharpton allegedly became a valuable informant for the U.S. Department of Justice. Moreover, Sharpton wasn’t asked to rat out another civil rights leader or organization — he was helping to fell notorious Mafia organizations. But a snitch is a snitch in the eyes of the black community, and they went in hard on the longtime civil rights leader for allegedly being a double agent of the lowest kind.
