Michelle Obama does ribbon cutting at the new Anna Wintour Costume Institute


Later that evening, the annual Met Gala which benefits the growth of the museum’s costume institute as well as honors a fashion movement or designer every year was held and in keeping with tradition, it was star-studded. The late designer Charles James was honored. James is often considered America’s first couturier. His tailored suitings and sculpted gowns were influenced by his Edwardian childhood and each piece was considered a work of art.
