Rogers: I couldn’t agree with you more, and I’m also well aware of your work with SafeCare®, as you have gone into at-risk homes and witnessed firsthand a unique approach to teaching parenting skills. In your estimation, what are some practical applications that we can share with our readers that can get us moving in the right direction? Let’s start a grass-roots movement today.

McGill: There is much work to be done, but it starts with a hard, long look within. There is a common misconception that what goes on next door and down the street is something that doesn’t affect us all. But I contend that it affects us all; both now, and in the future. The moment that we collectively decide that we want to invest back into marriage, family and the community as a whole is the moment when true progress can begin. There are countless low- to no-cost programs that are available to help families — both two-parent and single families. But the real change will occur when we stop the finger- pointing, and start the hand-extending. I help you … you help me … and together we can help the children of both today and tomorrow.
