im (Adam Sandler) and Lauren (Drew Barrymore) are a single dad and single mom who are looking for, well, not exactly each other, as it turns out. They have a horrible first date that he bails on, citing an “avalanche in the backyard,” before Lauren’s prearranged emergency call comes through. So, of course when they decide (separately) to take their kids on vacation to Africa (a huge continent, by the way), they run into each other. That’s quite a stretch. Sandler and Barrymore have an easygoing chemistry, but the whole Africa thing is a bit, well, let’s just say this film won’t garner an NAACP Image Award. –p.d. lee
