Future and his fiancée, Ciara, got the biggest gift of their lives this week when they welcomed their son, Future Zahir Wilburn, on Monday, May 19. Although fans have been celebrating the birth of the superstar couple’s child, they’ve also been weighing in heavily with questions and criticism about their son’s name. Recently, Future opened up to Us Weekly about his newborn and explained why he named the child Future.
In the article, Future explains that his son is “a mixture” of both his parents and he says that he named the child Future because “I want him to be better than me.”
“I would encourage him in anything he wants to do,” Future said. “I want to be behind him, of course.”
Future also opened up about how Ciara’s been doing post-birth and he explained that she’s recuperating well.
“She’s feeling great,” Future shared. “She’s with our son right now [in L.A.], I just texted her when I got off the airplane, and I’m going to get on the phone with her to see how everything is going.”
And even though this is Ciara’s first child (Future has three other children), he shared that he has no worries about Ciara being a good mother.
“She’ll be a great mom. She’s working at it every day and over time, I think she’ll be the best,” Future said.
