John “Sly” Wilson is a multifaceted gem in the music business. He’s a producer, arranger, songwriter, film composer, recording artist, and co-founding member of Sly Slick & Wicked. Wilson was honored earlier this month by music industry powerhouse BMI at the 62nd Annual BMI Pop Awards, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on May 13, 2014. He received the Pop Songwriter Award for Justin Timberlake’s #1 hit “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay Z.

Wilson has worked with music legends producing and recording with stars such as Janet Jackson, LaToya Jackson, Mikki Howard, Barry White, George Clinton, Layla Hathaway, Vanessa Williams and many others. Wilson spoke with rolling out about his career and writing a hit song:
