Legendary singer Aretha Franklin becomes the epitome of excellence in education, as she receives her eighth honorary doctorate. Earlier this week, the queen of soul was honored at the 2014 Harvard University commencement ceremony where she accepted an honorary Doctor of Arts degree.
Over the years, Franklin has received a variety of honorary doctorates, including an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Bethune-Cookman College in 1975 and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Wayne State University in 1990.
Franklin joins a growing list of black celebrities including Diddy, Jill Scott and Oprah Winfrey, all who have accepted such an honor. – ruthie hawkins/@ruubabie
