A big portion of the Purple Rain album is from a single live performance
The versions of “I Would Die 4 U,” “Baby I’m A Star, and “Purple Rain” from the album that we all grew up on were recorded live from a show Prince and The Revolution did at the First Avenue club in Minneapolis on Aug. 3, 1983. Save for a few overdubs and edits made for time constraint purposes, what we hear on the album all happened in real time.
