Many of today’s star athletes have various charities or foundations they donate to on a regular basis. But, for many of these multimillionaires, it is hardly a dent in their income. So when WNBA star athlete, Tina Charles pledged half her income of $100,00 per season to charity it is a big deal. Charles has pledged $50,000 per season to Hopey’s Heart Foundation to purchase 100 automatic external defibrillators known as AEDs. The WNBA center rookie is no stranger to this charity having already raised approximately $48,000 in the past.
The Hopey’s Heart Foundation provides CPR training, health education and AEDs to various community social service organizations and providers. Charles is quoted as saying “It means everything. When I started with this foundation I just wanted something to be in my aunt’s name. I see it as, the more AEDs out there we can help combat sudden cardiac arrest. The more AEDs out there the better chance people will have.”
Because of her charitable works Charles will receive the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award and another $7,500 for the Hopey’s Heart Foundation.
