R. Kelly’s done with R&B? ‘I can do anything’

2013 BET Awards - Show

R. Kelly returned to his old raunchy ways on his last album, 2013’s Black Panties, but it looks like the veteran R&B superstar is looking to make another shift musically. Kelly has floated through numerous variations of R&B throughout his career; from his early days as a New Jack Swing artist, to his pioneering hip-hop soul hits of the mid-1990s to his flirtations with classic soul on albums like Love Letter and Write Me Back.

But according to Kelly, his next album won’t be R&B at all.

R. Kelly spoke about his next project at Chicago’s 24th Annual Chosen Few Picnic Weekend and he revealed that he plans to go in a different direction altogether for a future album.

“I’m working on a house album right now, and I want y’all to know, it’s coming,” said Kelly.

Kelly has already spoken about taking his music “to a whole other level” in an earlier interview with V magazine, and he reiterated that belief while discussing his future plans for this project.

“Y’all know I love music, and I feel like I can do anything when it comes to music because I am music,” he stated. “Just like y’all.”

Kelly recently made headlines when he publicly voiced support for his trangendered son.
