Turntable Tuesdays: Spin doctor Kevin ‘KB’ Burns

For more than a decade and a half, Kevin “KB” Burns has been a part of the nightlife industry in several key capacities.

From promoting college parties on the Tuskegee University campus at 17, to managing one of the largest nightclubs in the southeast region, Burns has always had a love for music. Growing up listening to legendary DJ’s such as Farley, Gene Hunt, and the Boolumaster among others helped to build Burns’ musical foundation. Living in Alabama, New York, Atlanta, and Canada gave him a different perspective of music that he later came to appreciate because it was so different from the sounds that were dominating Chicago.

After a number of years serving as booking agent for DJs, Burns got the itch to step behind the turntables himself and he hasn’t looked back since. From his standpoint, the music should touch you and make you feel a certain way. “I feel that music should touch your soul. As a DJ, I want to take you on a musical journey, one that will touch your past as well as the now and the future,” he says. “I think that the mainstream has taken that away. I want to bring back the days when you slow danced at the end of the party because that was your only chance to get close to the girl you eye balled all day in school and at the dance. I just want to go back to having fun.”
