Frank Ocean is the kind of star that likes to keep his private life out of the tabloids, but that privacy was definitely broken this weekend when his father decided to sue hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons for a gargantuan 9-figure sum over defamation accusations.
According to TMZ, Ocean’s father, Calvin Cooksey, filed a lawsuit against Simmons claiming that the mogul has unfairly portrayed him as a deadbeat dad in articles on his site Global Grind.
Cooksey has reportedly been absent from the Channel Orange singer’s life since he was 5. But in his lawsuit, Cooksey claims that Ocean’s mother, Katonya Breaux Riley, whom he describes as “money grubbing,” moved away and kept him from seeing his son.
Cooksey claims that Simmons’ site failed to do their due diligence in fact checking and instead reported lies about him, even going so far as to fail to even use his name in their reports.
Cooksey, who claims to be a singer, inventor, and writer, is now suing Simmons for a whopping $142 million, saying the mogul has cost him 9-figures in future income.
Ironically, back in 2012, Frank Ocean claimed that Cooksey was planning to sue him for $1 million.
While this is definitely one high-profile lawsuit, we doubt that Cooksey is going to see any of Simmons’ grand fortune, especially not such a big chunk of it. – nicholas robinson
