Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson’s thriller, No Good Deed walks off with the box office crown, after nabbing the number one spot during opening weekend.
According to Deadline, the suspense flick which was produced on a $13.8 million budget grossed just over $24.5 million in ticket sales at North American theaters over the weekend. Not too shabby!
“It’s a stunning result for a film that we believed strongly in,” commented Sony’s president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer. “It’s a combination of the star power, Sam Miller‘s direction and the marketing. Every spot we had on the film resonated with audiences. It was 60 percent female and 41 percent of the audience was under 30,” Bruer continued.
Backed by a clever social media marketing scheme (which worked), No Good Deed is expected to keep the momentum, despite the heavy football season.
