Jay and Christy welcome Newt home
Christy tells Jay that it’s on her heart to buy her son Newt a plane ticket to see them and she wants his blessing to do so. She attempted to do so last Christmas but Jay vetoed the idea in an effort to not enable him any further. Newt was sent to live with relatives in Alabama while battling a drug addiction and hasn’t been home in two years. Despite Christy’s optimism, Jay has some reservations about Newt falling back into old habits while in California. After some tension at the dinner table, Newt expresses that he’s ready to move back to California and reassures his family he’s ready to make a positive change in his life. During a later heart-to-heart over lunch, Newt and Jay find a common ground and Newt returns to Alabama on good terms with the possibility of moving back to California in the near future.
