Laverne Cox has already done a countless amount of groundbreaking work for the transgender community, and now she’s taking her activism to the world of TV next month when she hosts the new MTV documentary “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.”

According to Queerty, the documentary will focus on seven transgender youths, ranging in age from 12 to 24, and “will share their determination to live their lives authentically, as the person they are meant to be.”

The doc will also examine “transgender identities and race through each individual’s journey as they overcome challenges such as coming out, bullying, and anti-transgender violence.”

Cox spoke about the documentary in a statement to the press, saying, “For many of us, the ‘T’ in LGBT means more than transgender, it also means truth. The cast members in this documentary are fearlessly living their truths and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it’s OK to be who you are.”

The documentary will air simultaneously on both MTV and Logo at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17. Immediately afterwards, Cox and MTV personality SuChin Pak will host the hour-long “Trans Forum,” during which Cox and the doc’s cast will answer questions from viewers about their lives.

We’re definitely excited about this documentary and we hope it helps mainstream America to learn more about the lives and experiences of the transgender community. – nicholas robinson
