Jay Pharoah is one of the most famous impressionists in comedy, but the “Saturday Night Live” star raised the ire of rapper Kanye West following Pharoah’s recent stint hosting the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Kanye revealed in an onstage rant that he’d called Pharoah after the VMAs and told him about how hard he fought to get to his current superstardom; this caused many to believe that there was bad blood between West and Pharoah. But in a recent interview with AllHipHop, the comedian said that he has no beef with Kanye or any of the other famous stars he’s impersonated. In fact, another hip-hop megastar loves his impression of him.

“[Jay Z] likes it,” Pharoah says. “I met him…He gave me the stamp of approval. It was great. Jay Z had no problem.”

And Pharoah said that the Kanye conversation wasn’t hostile at all.

“It was cool,” Pharoah explained. “It’s all good. We had a good conversation. It was very cordial and nice. Kanye’s a cool guy. We’re chillin’. There’s no beef between us. It was a real good conversation…He was cool. He was like, ‘I appreciate what you did. I know what you’re up against. I think you did great.’ It was all good. It was no problem.”
