Deitrick Does Detroit
Though he was raised as and by The Haddons, Deitrick travels to his hometown of Detroit to learn more about his biological father. His first stop in Detroit however is home with the Haddons to talk to his mom and have dinner with the family which proved to be explosive. Deitrick’s sister Zena is in protest of Deitrick seeking out to learn of his biological father and accuses Dominique of putting him up to it much to everyone’s surprise. Deitrick assures everyone that this is all his idea and it does not mean that he doesn’t consider himself a Haddon, but it’s something he has to do for himself and his daughters. He then has a heart-to-heart with his mom before visiting his biological dad’s family where she reveals she left because he was abusive to her. Once he meets with his biological dad’s family and meets everyone, many for the first time, he gets a chance to hear stories about his dad, and even a rare recording of his dad singing. He then pulls his dad’s only living brother to the side to get more information before bidding everyone adieu. He goes to the cemetery in which his father is buried, but is unable to find his grave. The episode ends with Deitrick and Dominique saying a prayer for him and vowing to carry on his legacy.
